How do you hook up a trailer plug?

Does anybody know how to wire in a 4 pin trailer plug to our trucks?. One wire is for ground, one is for running lights, and the other two are left and right signals but how do you get the brakes to light up??

Re: How do you hook up a trailer plug?

Your brake light is the same as your turn signal light.
When it is blinking it is a turn signal. When it is constant on it is a brake light.

So you got ground, tail lights, brake/left turn signal, brake/right turn signal.

Thanks mrein3, that makes perfect sense. I should have thought of that!

ECE sells that same plug...at least I think it's the same. I have it on my CST with their hidden hitch. Works great.

That's the one I used. I recommend it. The harness is long enough to run it out the side of the bed too.

The napa one is less than 10 bucks IIRC, walk into any NAPA and tell them to get you a p/n 755-1554

Double yes on the plug, don't butcher up the wires if you can avoid it.
