Cruise control ?
Anybody got any info on cruise control for 71 C20 Longhorn? Was it original equipment or a dealer add-on? Mine has it but it doesn't work.

Re: Cruise control ?
if it is listed on the glove box, it's original.
If it isn't listed, then either dealer add on or owner add on. |

Re: Cruise control ?
The factory cruise control is an integral part of the turn signal lever. The lever looks the same at a glance. The end is/was white and there`s some labeling on it.
That Suburban dash looks to be from a very nice vehicle with very cool add-ons,like a/c and cruise. It`s pretty cool that it has a factory am/fm,too. WOW!That is a nice one:tilt,tach,402/TH400,auxilary tank,SuperCustom(original interior).

Re: Cruise control ?
IIR the cruise unit shown on the Burb is from an early Caddy. Would say about 60-65. 4 years ago at the Portland swap meet I saw a unit like that offered for a truck. I turned my head and laughed. I guess the laugh was on me.
I have a Chev full size car control unit that has a dial on it and is just the same size as the 67-72 PU. Just like the 65/66 Chev car heater control fits the PU. Nice to learn something everyday - Bob

Re: Cruise control ?
71-72 were dealer added and have the switch below the dash and not on the blinker lever.
Check out the link below from the FAQ section, it will answer about any question you might have. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=136867

Re: Cruise control ?
Chevylvr7 if you pick up a 1971, 70, 69, 68, or 67 Chevy factory truck service manual you'll find the last chapter in the manual #15 covers installing and troubleshooting the cruise control on these trucks.

Re: Cruise control ?
The 1971 Chev Truck Chassis Service manual shows the factory cruise control engagement switch as part of the turn signal stalk (blinker lever). (SECTION 15 - Accessories - Cruisemaster (Quote " The engagement switch is located at the end of the directional signal lever and is used to control the system and for upward and downward speed adjustments" )

Re: Cruise control ?
Section 15 - Accessories- Cruisemaster; has 6 pages of adjustment and trouble shooting procedures for the cruise control as outlined in the 1971 Chev Truck Service manual. I would think this would be a factory option. Looks like it could be installed by a dealer also.

Re: Cruise control ?
I have never seen a 71/72 glovebox sticker that had it from the factory, not saying there aren't any, I just haven't seen it (but would like to).
I also have the GM restoration packet for a 71 that lists all the RPO codes that could be ordered and it does not list cruise control in it all. That is the main reason I think that it was a dealer installed option. I think if you would have special ordered a 71 or 72 truck and wanted cruise control it would have been added after the truck was shipped to the dealer and thats why you see 71/72's with factory cruise but its not listed on the glovebox sheet. Rod knows a lot about cruise control for 67-72 trucks and sums it up pretty well in the link I posted earlier from the FAQ section. Jeff
