Question Another Grant Wheel/Horn Thing

Like some of you have mentioned I am having problems with the horn with my new grant Wheel. I seem to have a horn that never turns off or never comes all. I think it was Barn9's wise words...Grant horn kit s**ks

I'm thinking about using a button on the dash. My question is where should I tap for the horn. Is it in the harness or is it the two leads that plug in at the botton end of the column near the fire wall? Also any recomendations on switches...mostly what current rating should I look for to handle the horn? And I guess lastly, where did you mount your button for those who did the remote switch?

TIA

Palf, I just got a generic horn button from tha auto parts store and wired it to the hot wire from the horn relay at the bottom of the steering column, and mounted the button to the bottom of the dash. At least I have a horn now. Oh, and by the way, Grant horn kits SUCK!

Or....you could put it on the floor. That way you keep both hands
on the wheel in an emergency. Mine is above the dimmer, and hidden with the carpet.

Well sh*t, I really struggled with putting that Grant Horn kit on and now you guys are saying it might not even work!?

I guess we'll put it on the floor before we finish all this wiring...

I agree...I had no problems with mine either, just using the kit as it is.

I had a hard time with mine until an 18 yr old friend showed me how to do it correctly. I have put it together several times now. I'll have to do it again in a few weeks as I just bought a new wheel off Ebay. There is a trick to putting these things in! I've said I'd do a write up, but don't have a digital camera or much time. hmmmm.....

Installing it is very easy. I just can't get the horn to work right. I may be missing something like a spacer or something. The other thing is the fiber plate they give you probably won't last because of me taking this thing on and off so many times. I'm waiting for the first pothole I hit for the cap to fly off. It doesn't seem real tight. If anybody has any pics of their wheel torn apart during the install please post pics. Some of us might be missing a part or something. Thanks guys.

Just to let everyone know, I've installed Grant wheels and horn kits on several trucks, with the horn kit being a problem on 3 out of 4 installs. Usually have been able to get them working, but on my current truck I cannot figure out the problem. I've had three friends, all of whom have done several themselves, go throgh this install with me, and they can't figure it out either. We have tried every trick we can think of to no avail, and I'm on the 2nd horn kit now, same problem, as soon as I start to turn the steering wheel, the horn goes on constantly untill un-plugged. And when I thought I finally had it, it started drawing my battery down overnight, so I just went with a dash button. I know it's something in my column as opposed to a Grant problem, but I still think the horn kit is a poorly engineered piece of ****!
