Question gas leak

next step before i pull out the motor in my 72 is to take off the fuel pump. will the gas in the tank drain out, if so, after i plug the rubber hose to keep the fuel from running out is it a good idea to put a shut off valve somewhere along the fuel line.

Re: gas leak

It wont drain out.the fuel pickup runs down from the top of your tank, so it has to have the pump to pull it to the engine. Not sure about the fuel shut off valve, To me it's just something else to get in the way. Good luck.

Re: gas leak

Just cover the line so dirt and critters don't find their way in. Replace all the short pieces of rubber fuel line going to the tank, since they more than likely are dry rotted.
