Intermittent Wipers????
I know this was talked about a while back, but does anyone know of any way to install i.wipers on a 72 and keep it original looking? Was someone working on a "replacement" ? I just drove about 400 miles in a drizzle- WHAT a PITA! ( just spoiled ?) I was thinking about installing an older after market one under the dash if necessary, but I think you also have to cut wiring for them and I really dont like that. SUGGESTIONS??

There are intermittent wiper switches on the busses i work on but i will have to check to see if they will fit under the dash or not. I will also have to see how much they would cost if i can even get them. Great idea though i will check it out monday.

I use it on all the exterior glass and Rain-X fog on the inside. It works wonders! :-) Kenneth

I'm still working on it!
I'll check Monday with my electrical engineer to see what the hold up is the our switch. I have one that will mount in the factory position and works like the factory GM intermittent operates in newer vehicles. With this switch you also have a choice of which knob you want to have.

I thought someone was working on a "factory" style replacement, just didnt know who!!
Hey Church, Is the electrical going to plug into the original wiring harness? Does it use something like the "brain-box" that plugs inbetween the switch and truck wiring like my '80 Chevy one ton has? AND... any idea on cost range yet? THANKS !!!!!!! Steve |

I'm with XXL. A delay would be nice but in the mean time apply some Rain-X or some other similar product to your glass. The stuff works great. You don't even need wipers in conditions where you would use a delay.
A side benefit in using Rain-X for us northern folks is in winter driving conditions. The salt spray rolls right off AND if you are caught in an ice storm you can still scrape your windows. Put it on your rear view mirrors too.

My switch has a brain box that is acutally part of the switch itself.
You can not plug the factory type plug into this switch. You will have to splice this switch into your existing wiring harness. The cost of it is going be around the 50 to 60 dollar range.

I unfortuanatly had to drive a F%$@ bronco (late 80's) and it had a knob style wiper switch with variable intermittent when you turned the switch the other way. You could probably put our knob on it and make it work. looked pretty basic and I thought how nice that would work in my truck when I was using it.

On my '66 panel (same wiper motor and column as 67-72's), I used Mazda (ford) levers for both wipers and lights and turn, and used a Mazda wiper motor, fits in stock location with very minor mouning problems. Some F's and Mazdas have no delay, some fixed, some variable length, control is in the switch itself, motors are all the same. If you pull the lever, you get squirt and 2 wipes, push and you get 1 wipe, no squirt. Holding pull continuous squirt, then 2 more wipes after you let loose. Plus, the switch is right there, not on the dash. Lights give you daytime hi beam flash, lane change turn, I use cruize control set button to momentarially kill rear lights, for thanking trucks. I was able to install the lever setup onto a tilt and telescope combo I made up from a van column and a caddy, steering wheel is Camaro or Fiero.
I have worked out sull schematics and can post or supply if anyone interested.
