Windows don't roll up and down smooth

What's the deal? Something bent of out of alignment? Anyone have this problem? The crank is really hard to turn at the 6 o'clock position of the window crank. Passenger side is even worse.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

What is the condition of the window guides? If the felt in the tracks is in bad shape it can make it hard to roll the windows up/down.

I'd pop the door panels and loop the mechanisms up really well to see if that helps.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

Felt is perfect. Lubed once before. Guess I will lube again and see. I I'll try some anti sieze thread compound.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

Anti seize gets a bit stiff in the winter. Molygraphite is super slick all year long. Also silicone is safe to spray down in those guides. Won't hurt the felts. Probably got lots of that desert dust in there. Make sure you get every possible friction point. If that doesn't help, it might be time for new regulators. I think they are about $40 from LMC, but might be cheaper elsewhere. Good luck!!

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

Just a thought, sometimes in the past when I have worked on old cars rust will build up and swell at the pivot point of the regulator. Take them out and hit them with a punch and a hammer at the rivet point and they should loosen up some. Try it, it just might work for you and lube while you are in there.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

If the lube and giving the pivot points a whack does not work, then I'll look at replacing the regulators. Thanks guys.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

I spray my window tracks with silicone spray. I converted my windows to electric and the silicone keeps them moving smooth. I use it on my other vehicles also. I have found that if you spray down the door seals it also keeps them from freezing the door closed during the winter.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

I had/have same problem. Both windows were hard to roll up and down.
*For the Drivers side, I changed the regulator with an NOS one. I also changed all of the tracking and door rubber/felt. This window almost rolls itself up it is so easy.

For the passenger side, I did not change the regulator, just cleaned and lubed it up with plenty of grease. I did change the tracking and door rubber/felt. Although easier to open, it is not as easy as with the new regulator.

So, your best bet if you are looking for easy rolling is to change the regulators. Its is not difficult, just need to take your time.

bouncy,
I was lucky, when I bought my blazer it came with the buy. The PO had bought it several years prior, but never changed it out.

I'm not sure if you can get them anymore...don't think so. I've never seen one on ebay..well in the last couple of years or so.

Maybe someone else can chime in on availability.

Re: Windows don't roll up and down smooth

Bouncytruck, I just buy the cheapest spray silicone lubricant I can find. I live on a dirt road and have not had an excesive dust problem. My friend tried it on his Ford (excuse my language) because he was popping the electric window breaker. Cured the problem.

Mine has that problem too...I notice my door allignment was off and the top was pushing the upper part of the door out of whack...the spot weld for the door post was cracked.....once I pushed the post back in...window rolled up and down just fine.....I'm sure there's worn out stuff too.
