Sagging hanger bearing question ???

Just replaced it last year on the 68, the common half ton type. The drive shaft hangs off center to the bottom, and it feels like the bearing can move up and down about 1/4 inch before it touchs rubber. It seems the old one hung like that too, that's why I replaced it.
Is this common or normal ? Should I replace it again ? I know about the poly ones, but shouldn't the rubber ones be a little stiffer ? Thanks.
