what power steering interchanges with or trucks???

Well I talked to some of the fellas at our SD board meet at Shawn's (71swb4x4) on saturday (Great time i may add, nice to meet everybodyt hat showed up!!!!!) and asked what would be a good donor for ps pump and brackets for my 72 K20... I saw Todd (68c15) had a 78 van setup, looked liek the right front bracket and pump, butthe rear bracket mounted to the manifold rather than the motor mount.... any other good donors for original appearance and function, AND now that i think about it, is there a difference in 4x4 and 2wd pump and brackets????

I think they are the same. The differences you are seeing is the 78 brackets are for the long water pump. (73 up on trucks w/alt on pass side) and they do not interchange with each other.

Also be aware that there are different fittings for early and later boxes. the early boxes use a flare type fitting and the later use an "O" ring.

Re: what power steering interchanges with or trucks???

i have noticed some cars use a short bracket mounting ps pump to engine and others with short water pump [like 68 malibue] use a much longer one [77 vette] the corvette one is much closer in location to the truck but are stamped steal rather than cast iron

Do yourself a favor and don't try to mix & match ps components. There are too many differences...even just between our 67-72 trucks.
Go get a complete matching set off of one truck...preferably 69-72 and be done with it!

Re: what power steering interchanges with or trucks???

well heres the deal... I saw the 76ish vans were similar, cept for that manifold bracket, and i saw the same pump on a 64-68ish 283-327-350's in a local boneyard and i was wondering what i could use.. the vans have all pulleys, brackets etc. that i could swap over and i may be able to get for next to nothing.... soooooo..... does any one have pics of a 4x4 set up.... so i know what a real one looks like... my 70 k10 has ps but i think it was added and dont know if it is right.... thanks,

Mike,

Attached are two pictures of the '72 4x2 I drove to the meet, and two pictures of my '71 Blazer 4x4. If you want some specific angles just let me know.

Re: what power steering interchanges with or trucks???

My donors:
Pump/lines/pulleys and brackets was a 72 GMC C-2500 w/350,
PS gearbox 72 Chev K20 w/350
All of this bolted right up on my 67 K20 w/283

Before I put the swap on I did a side by side comparison of the 72 and a 76 4x4 PS gearboxes, you can't tell them apart. I went with the 72.

I installed the March Ultra system... Very nice, but I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do with the lines... Has anybody else used this serpentine kit?

Here's mine:
