48-54 rearend width
How wide are the rearends originally? I`ve got a complete 9" that is roughly 60"" from flange to flange. How narrow can you go using the stock frame and suspension? Thanks.

Re: 48-54 rearend width
The stock rearends on these trucks are 60" to 62" flange to flange depending on the model year I have used later camaro rear ends in them that were 58" but had to be careful of the wheel backspacing. there is a whole table of suspension and donor car info on www.chevytrucks.org/tech/ifs&rearend.htm it's really good info. Hope this helps

Re: 48-54 rearend width
Thanks for the link. I skimmed through it real quick, I`ll go back when I have more time. i have a rearend that I bought for a 65 chevelle but I just sold that car and I`m going to keep bugging my buddy for the old truck he has behind his garage,49-53, and the rearend I have should be 59 3/4". I haven`t measured it but thats the stock 65 chevelle width and thats what I ordered the 9" to be for. I`m planning on going with some 17" wheels and maybe a 285 or so tire in the rear. I don`t know too much about these early trucks. I`ve had a 57 and 2 68`s and a 70 so the early ones are new to me but I`ve always wanted to do one. I`m just going to make a driver out of it, flip the rearend and a MII frontend and a mild sbc and overdrive tranny. anyway, thanks again for the link.

Re: 48-54 rearend width
No problem...I have built a ton of the 47-54 trucks and just started on my 69 and 70 long wheelbase trucks so I'm learning stuff on here about them.
