Rust question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looked at a truck today that had rust where the wires run across the top of the fire wall? The channel is full of putty, can it be repaired? My body man said it can but I am not sure he under stands what I mean when I explained it to him. Thanks for the pic COBALT hope you dont mind! This is not the truck I just put it up there for an example. I have another cab with a good fire wall?

Are 69 gmc heater boxes different? I believe this is a 70 chevy.

Body guy told me he had not seen one rust thru like this before but is fixable.

Is it fixable? Yes. How good are you at metal work? Otherwise, you get into situations like we do at work. How much money can you borrow?

You're in trouble with this picture. The problem isn't the rust you see. It's that all the water that made those spots has gone somewhere... and quite likely down into the lower cowl area on either side. There aren't any replacement parts that I'm aware of for much of this kind of damage, so you'll be doing a lot of fabbing. I'm actually in the process of replacing a cab that is probably less damaged than the one you've posted.

GMC has the same heater box as Chevy.

Heater box.......whats that? Its damn hard to put one of these trucks on a "diet"! some of the comforts have to go!

None that I am aware of, although i have hardly messed with the 67/68 trucks of either make.
The only think differant that I am aware of is A/C verses non A/C.
Maybe one of our mass truck dismantlers will read this and confirm/deny my statements.
