Cool Blazer full top repair

Tried the search function on this. It won't acknowledge the words, Cap or Top.

Oh well. I'm sure I'll get answers here.

What is the 73 full cap mad of?? Any restorative ideas? painting? Gel-coating? Ideas?

Anything to look for, Crack prone areas, etc?

I'd appreaciate any help or links to help with this.

Re: Blazer full top repair

Just fix the cracks with regular fiberglass. I think it is actually SMC (sheet molded composite) but will fix like regular fiberglass. It can be primed and painted just like the rest of the vehicle. The ones I have had developed stress cracks at the joints, the top corners of the back window, and the front edges. The later (mid 74 and 75) tops had overlapping seams which helped keep cracking down a bit.

Re: Blazer full top repair

While we are on the top issue jonboy...i have a question. I put the top back on my 73 in march when we got her ready to load onto a trailer to bring her back from phx. The top did not quite...ok a lot....want to line up with the winshield frame...so i got the right side bolts and one center bolt in i think or maybe just the right side bolts. Anyways the last full vert i owned was a 72 jimmy and it could be a pain sometimes to put the top back on but never this bad. The tub is rust free and pretty damn straight for her age so i would have to guess at winshield frame needs to come back on the drivers side. Is this a common issue? And how best to tackle the problem....

I have a brandy new soft top for it from STC i won last year at blazer bash...so i was thinking about going that route and saving the hard top for a certain 77 i have to pick up...but of course no matter what top i use the 73 still has an issue to overcome.
