What did you get done?

It's time for our weekly edition of what you got accomplished this week. While my week didn't involve to much truck related, I did get a couple of things done.

I am trying to get my 77 Cheyenne back on the road again. I'm really close, but I have to get the transmission working correctly. When Stoked Out put the Ramjet 350 in, they also installed a 700r4. The install went well, but the tranny needs some final adjustment to be ready for the road.

My bro-in-law built the transmission at his shop here in town. In the morning I am taking the truck to him to get every fixed.

Beyond that I didn't do much "truck" related. I washed my daily drivers and installed new EZ-tags.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done?

I went to a swapmeet in Boerne Saturday. It was small and disappointing.

I came home and washed the truck thoroughly for the first time this year. I actually pulled the trim rings off the rally wheels and cleaned the brake dust from behind them. I have had several trim rings for a while, so I reinstalled the best four of them. It looks a lot better.

My plan was to adjust my new quadrajet today. I was going to start with the choke. I read the Doug Roe quadrajet book for about 30 minutes today while smoking some chicken and ribs. I never did find out how to adjust the choke, and the meat wasn't very good either.

One of my windshield wiper arms broke yesterday when I was cleaning the windshield. The mount for the spring broke, so it just lays there on the glass. Nobody stocks the arm, so I have to go order a couple of them tomorow. I hope it doesn't rain...

Re: What did you get done?

Picked up a 350 for my 86 3/4 ton to replace the very tired 305. Pressure washed most of the grease off of it. Took the valve covers off to look up the numbers and see the condition inside. Still need to pull the oil pan off and get it on the engine stand. Comb it over a little better. Looks like some idiot picked up the vehicle by the oil pan. That's getting replaced and I need to look at the oil pump pickup to see if its setting to high.

Gotta love pressure washing the grease off though. It takes every bit of grease and makes it look like a bomb went off covering you and everything around you.

Re: What did you get done?

Nothing truck related here either. I worked all day Saturday, then went to a movie and dinner with the wife.

Sunday I started building my 10x12 shed. Once it is finished, the crappy shed that is attached to our garage will be coming down, you can kind of see it in the pic.

Re: What did you get done?

Worked my tail off all weekend.
1. My son has a body kit on his Acura, so we put the wire mesh in the lower front bumper, installed a tag light and re-installed his stereo system (took it out while in the body shop, thieves)
2. Got the jet skiis up and running, batteries and a tune-up on both.
3. Continued to get the clutch working in my Isuzu (DD).
4. Worked on getting the 74 timed, sprung a leak in the radiator (fixed that).
5. Last but not least. After I got the 74 radiator fixed, I took her for a short drive and the alternator bolt broke off in the head. Spent better part of Sunday trying to drill that out. Gave up and just fabricated some brackets to mount the alt on the lower accessory hole. Seems to be working so far.

Re: What did you get done?

Well, my DD toyota took a dump on me Friday at lunch. Towed it home Friday night. Saturday changed the fuel filter on it. Sunday, changed the fuel pump....still not working. Taking it to have a diagnostic ran on it to see if that will show what it is. Washed the truck yesterday and will be driving it until I get the 'yota going. Can't cuss the car....1st time its left me stranded and has 193,000 miles on it. Been a good car. Still has a lot of life left.....once I get it going again.

Re: What did you get done?

Truck related I finally found a Cheyenne dash bezel for my project and it looks practically new. {now if I can ever get done with the Chevelle!}.I got the Chevelle frame rolling and just need to put on the stainless fuel & brake lines on and I'll be ready to set the body back down. I also went to an outdoor flea market in Poplar Bluff MO & picked up 8 baby guinea hens & 3 banty chickens. It just seemed like the thing to do at the time.

Re: What did you get done?

Went to Goodguys. Since the raceway where they've held the show was sold, they moved it up North and moved up the date from September to this past weekend. Even though it was new to the area, they had a very good turnout. A lot of fresh cars too. They said they had over 2k rods.
(Captkaos - Got some sun, but no burn...)

Here's a few shots.

A couple of Boyd's cars from American Hot Rod was there including the recent Bubbletop build. The lines were straight and very crisp. Nicely done. Gabe's interior work is incredible.

The Duece version of the California Kid had Paul LeMat from American Graffiti signature on the rear.

The '59 Morris Minor had a V8 stuffed under the hood. The pulleys sat just behind the grille with very little clearance. The rad and electric fans were in the bed of the PU.

The '39 Ford PU was a true Rat Rod and even with all the high dollar rods, got alot of looks.

All in all, a great show and great setup.

Re: What did you get done?

Spent better part of Saturday getting final parts and prep for the 350 crate install. Dad and brother arrived after lunch Sunday and we started the install. After a few trial attempts (read, unsuccessful), we were finally all lined up and about 1/2" from connecting bell housing to transmission. But she wouldn't go that last 1/2".

Frustrated.

We checked and re-checked everything, then finally decided to pull the bell housing and pressure plate off. Finally decided that the clutch was not aligned perfectly with pilot bearing. As we were putting clutch and pressure plate back on flywheel I pulled a dumb-butt move.

Looked at my old-school install manual for torque specs and saw "flywheel - 60 lb/ft". So I start cranking on the pressure plate bolts with torque wrench...something doesn't feel right. Dad said "you better stop" and BAM, break off bolt in the flywheel.

Recheck torque and see that pressure plate only requires 35 lb/ft. or torque!!! I'm such a jack___. So send Dad and brother home for the day.

Get "backout" tool at sears and more bolts at Lowe's. Now engine is back together and ready for Dad and brother to arrive after dinner. SUCK.

Watched "The Breakup" on Fridya with the extended family. Not much to tell other than Jennifer Aniston's a$$ shot is worth the price of admission. Other than that worked all weekend. Looking to get the Blazer still running.
