will a 400 tranny fit in my blazer?

i don't know too much about engines and trannys, but i was looking for a 4 speed, and someone was selling a turbo 400 (he told me it was a four speed)
will this fit a 73 2wd blazer. i think i have a turbo 350, can i just take out mine and replace this one without any mods?
he said it comming off a 82 chevy van offering both the tranny and 350 engine for 400 bucks

sorry if this is a dumb question.
thanks
dom

yes it will fit, but you may have to shorten your driveline the th400 is longer then the th350.

Correct me if i am wrong here....but didn't most TH400's have an electric kick down switch for passing gear mounted on the throttle pedal bracket?

Either way its a small job to wire in the circuit.

Re: will a 400 tranny fit in my blazer?

Brian...the reason i'm not sure is my wife drives a 90 V2500 burb....aka mom's school bus...and i actually don't remember if it has the switch or not? The trans was toast when we bought it but the price was right....and a bud in phx brought me up a TH475 he had stashed in the garage...i just don't remember though. She's in glenwood with the kids swimming today and plans to stop here in parachute to bring me my meds from the va so i'll take a peek when she gets here.

Who do you drive for down there? I wrenched for freightshaker since they were Sundance truck center back in the day.....

I'll be headed that way with the chalet as soon as i get this hole drilled to do a first ever blazerchalet.com roadcall to work on a fellow owners chalet....lol.

the TH400 is not a 4 speed, though.

Yes, you have to get an electric kickdown switch that does mount to the throttle cable and carb plate. It's not complicated to hook up.

Re: will a 400 tranny fit in my blazer?

The only ones i ever messed with were approx 81 to 84's and there was a switch inside the cab attached to the throttle pedal bracket. I have never seen one on the carb...course i have never owned a gen 1 with a factory 400...or is it aftermarket?

Jonboy is correct...TH350/400 is a 3 speed trans...and the TH475 which i have in the wifes burb was a C60 truck/school bus only thing...the only difference between the TH400-475 is the for the severe duty app the gears are straight cut for strength as apposed to the helical gears on a light duty 400. Makes a lil noise as apposed to the 400 but in a c60 i think noise is less of a concern than in a family wagon.

Jonboy...aren't you supposed to be working during day light hours bud? I'm the only one who gets paid to sit on my duff and roam the net....lol.

Doug, that's why I have "mgr." a the end of my title. I think the translation roughly means " he who does nothing and gets paid for it" or something like that.
