I agree with you on the driveshaft. Eventually after the Blazer is done, I'm going to redo the suspension on the 71 and see if that cleans it up. I'm also going to add a set of overloads to the back as the coils are just too weak.
On my engine, the A/C had a bracket that ran from the intake to the back of the compressor as a brace. Does yours have that? I just left it off when I went to tune port(no way to mount it), and it hasn't made a difference in the way it operates. I did have to modify the mounting bracket to make it work with my headers though. A little grinding and some 1/2 and 1 and a 1/2 inch spacers were all that were required.
