Dually conversion

I'm starting a new project. I want to take a 71 with coils and conv it to leafs. Is there a refence point for the hangers? I have an 84 dually as a donor. Will the 1 ton frt end bolt in like a half ton? Thanks for the info.

Re: Dually conversion

welcome poorboy,
the front xmember will bolt in like the 1/2 ton conversion. Cant help you on where to put the spring hangers other than to say find a 1 ton and measure, or roll that sucker under there, line it up, square it up, make sure you driveline from the 71 can still bolt up within tolerance and then drill. I dont know if you were planning to use the 84 springs or not but it should be noted that they are not the same length as the 71 chev/gmc. The 84 springs will be longer. If i was you I would try and find the correct hangers and springs. The mods to the 84 rear would be simple enough. The perches will line up with the springs, but you will need to cut off the shock mounts and relocate them, and may have to get a longer brake hose and/or tweak the brake hardlines a little.

I think for the rear I'll get a spring perch for the rearend and use it to set up the hanger locations. Should be a fun project. It's going to make a nice rig to tow my racecar.
