who knows there stuff about frames?

OK I need some help... AS you may or may not know I need a new frame for my 71 chevy K10 4x4

now searching local junk yards I have not really came across anything I would consider great... my best find was a 85 chevy short bed 4x4 but its still not that great...

anyways I was wondering the differences in the frame between the 4x4 and 2 wheel drive...
I know there is a cross member on the 2 wheel drive that the drive shaft goes threw...
but other then that how hard would it be to make the 2 wheel drive frame a 4x4 frame

another question is how hard would it be to make a long bed frame into a short bed frame?

any other suggestions on what I could do would be greatly appreciated... as of now I need a solid foundation to build on... that is my main priority....

thanks for any help....

Re: who knows there stuff about frames?

Most 67-72 chevy 2wd frames had coil springs, and the rear frame rails flared out above the rear wheels. They have been converted to 4wd but it's alot of work. I believe some of the GMC frames had leaf springs and were straight above the rear wheels like a 4x4 frame. One of these would be easier to convert. Shortening a lwb 4x4 frame would be less work. There are some older posts about about these conversions, you could try a search or look through the FAQ submission, then under FAQ Index Thread, look for your topic there.
