1972 4x4 Longhorn?
First one of these I have seen for sale.
Looks to need some restoration. Production #'s got to be pretty low on that model. 1972 4x4 Longhorn

I just saw it for sale on the Auto Trader website and thought that it was unusual, and was wondering if it was a production model.
I know this guy's have all the information and could verify if it was in fact real or not. From time to time there are different combinations of these trucks that show up for sale that no one has ever seen, I just thought that it was interesting. From the ad it appears to be in Ohio. Who knows? If some one were close enough to check it out and snap a few pics of the data sheet it would be interesting to see what the original options were. Quote:
But with her not really. Lets just say that she is a friendly girl that gets around.

Dave is right, no 4X4 longhorns built.
That one is here in Ohio...I was going to look at it for someone on here about 6 months ago, but they said not to bother. Just wish I could remember who it was. |

I kind of thought that it was converted, but you never know.
Thanks for the clarification on this one. You guys really know these trucks.

there is a gentleman out here in San Jose, Ca. that has done a few longhorn to 4x4 conversions that turned out really nice.i have a G.M. silver book that shows a lot of strange things that were G.M. approved but not assembly line built, one thing i saw in there was 4x4 conversions so it would be possible that some longhorn's were converted when new and sold at dealerships.

Another interesting thing, in one of the restoration catalogs, they show a picture on a 4X4 horn...but no info. If memory serves (I don't have my books here) they had a 2 wheel drive model number in the caption.

Saw it today.......
I saw this truck today. Turns out it's only about 7 miles from me. It's not as you all agreed a production 4x4. It's got a 454, 400 turbo and a divorced (!?!) NP 205.
It has buckets and an underdash a/c (not functional...no compressor). Rockers (inner and outer) need replaced. Some surface rust scattered around, but all in all pretty solid. Has a Detroit locker rear. It was loaded on a trailer with sides when I found it so I couldn't get a good look at the front axle, but I think it's a corporate GM. I told the guy it had been discovered by the board and got his permission to stop by to take pictures if anyone here is interested. If anyone wants it and needs a place to "stage" it until you canmake arrangements to get it home, you'd be welcome to park it in my yard for a while if that'd help you. (No, I'm not getting a cut on the deal ). The truck is only 5-6 miles off of I-75 about 45 mins south of Toledo.

Dutch,
Thank you for taking the time to check out that longhorn, it appears that these guys were right. First one I had seen like that. If I could return the favor just let me know

This one is up for sale again too. (like 3 or 4 times in a year) Big block 4X4 71 or 72.
Some one e-mailed me asking about the 4X4 availability and he mentioned it was blue. When i sent him a picture of it, he couldn't believe it, but it was the same exact truck. I might be able to get ahold of the guy who saw it for sale...but I probably deleted it already. (not really sure) |
