You might think I've lost it....

Hey all! I've got a little bit of a dilema... I just bought myself a 84' sierra, and am having the most rediculous problem. I can't get the freakin' hood release to release! I have never owned or had reason to open the hood of anybody elses truck for this year and bodystyle so I am wondering if there is something that I am totally looking over, that is incredibly simple and I am just too oblivious to see? Maybe the PO has a little trick to it? I'll give him a call and ask, but figured I try to get an answer from you fellaz first. Any help would be appreciated.

What a wonderful stable of vehicles to have when gas is +$1.00CAD/L.

Have someone pull the lever and hold it and you make a fist and give it a light thump on the front of the hood over where the latch is with the side of your fist and it should pop right up they do this if the striker isn't adjusted right. Sometimes you can even pull the release and get out and do the same thing without having someone hold the release handle and it will pop up.

Seriously. I used to have to do this on my '85 K5. Sometimes it took a few times, but I had to do this pretty much every time I opened the hood.

If you oil the latch it typically fixed this.

Yep, that was the trick. My typical style of going all primitive "cave-man" style and hitting things was exactly what needed to happen. Just gave er' a few good whacks with the bottom of my fist and open it came. Thanks for the insight Oldtruckfanatic!

Re: You might think I've lost it....

Sounds like opening the hood on my Suburban. Pull lever, *push lever back in*(if not it wont open no matter what), get out, hit about 10-30 times in circular pattern, kick $~*# out of bumper and tire, hit few more times, get mad and forget about opening the hood, crank up, drive about 1/2 mile and the hood pops up. Then try checking the water after you take off driving. Some things I never understand
