How hard/$ to install Cruise Control?
What's involved in istalling Cruise Control, and how to get a good looking control panel?

I bought and installed the Audiovox cruise control from J.C. Whitney. I won't say it is good looking but it sure is nice to have.
http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITEMID=910&BQ=jcw2 The installation was pretty straight forward. You have to mount the servo somewhere. I put it on the driver's side inner wheel well. If you have a manual transmission you don't have to put the magnets on the driveshaft. I had a manual but had a th350 sitting on the ground so I put the magnets on the driveshaft and set it up like an automatic. Now with the auto it still works as advertised. Don't pay the $109.99 like the link is asking for. Every other catalog that shows up has it on sale for $70 or so. I suppose I should add that I don't work for J.C. Whitney or Audiovox.

No problems yet. I've had it on there for over one year.
One time while I was monkeying around with something under the hood I disconnected it then managed to overtighten the adjuster for the speed control cable and broke it. Fortunately the threads are 1/4"-20 so I used a 1/4-20 anchor like a sleeve to "repair" it. That "fix" has been on there for many miles. So far so good. For installation you need to hook a wire into your brake light switch and one on the tach. You need power and you need to tap into your truck's "on when headlights are on circuit" if you want it lit at night. If you have an automatic transmission you need to crawl under the truck and wire a magnet on your driveshaft and mount the pick-up sensor above that. I believe the tach signal replaces the magnet in a straight stick configuration (the speed of the distributor is constant for a given driveshaft speed because a stick has no torque converter slip). Then pick a spot on your dash and mount the cute control panel.

I bought the dakota digital cruise control. I haven't put it on yet, so I really have no idea about the quality. It has a newer style control. You mount it on the turn signal or maybe you could mount it on the tilt? Anyways, I think it will look allright.
