I've got a bit of Gas

OK, so I've got a dumb question (surprise)....

Replaced the bit of flex fuel line tonight between the hard line from the tank and the fuel pump. Was looking cracked and worn, figured that it was an easy replacement. Took off the gas cap to releve pressure and yanked off the old hose. The damn thing was squirting gas like Ol' Faithful. After dumping about $8 of old dinosaurs on my arm, garage floor, frame, hat, etc. I got the new line on.

I thought opening the tank would relieve the pressure and keep the lines from pumping. What am I missing?

Didn't have to take the cap off.

Re: I've got a bit of Gas

I think taking the cap off made it act like a large gas can, with the cap being the vent on a gas can...

Re: I've got a bit of Gas

OK, so my Chilton manual lied to me about the cap. I figured since the fuel lines come off of the top of the tank that gravity feed isn't an issue. I'll leave it on next time...
