Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
Sounds much better. Idle is a bit high. Get a tach on there to get it back down. You're getting it better off than where it was.

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
also, whats the cheapest tach made that i can mount on my dash or something? I'm really not used to not having a tach...i like knowing how/where my engine is running.

You can get a cheap small dial one from Summit or Jeg's cheap. Also might check your local store for a cheap one.

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
thanks, found one for 36, see if i can find one for cheaper. We might have a 5" monster tach in the boxes, that would just be for testing..no way i could fit a 5" tachometer in my truck..anywhere.
Do i have it advanced far enough, or should i move it some more and put it there on the edge of predetonation? Last edited by magnethead; 06-16-2006 at 12:55 AM. |

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
I did on my column. Mine had a bracket with a curved mount. I used a hose clamp around the column and mounted it on there behind the shifter and saw between the fuel gauge and the speedo.

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
question: Since my rotor and cap checked out ok (cap was clear, rotor had minute buildup), can i just get autolite platinums and accell wires with a MSD HEI coil thats up in the 42-50Kv range? How many volts is the stock coil?

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
well I was checking if my vac advance was working, and the engine spat out black smoke for a second. After some deliberation with mylilbowtie, i found that everything was fine. And yes, the vacuum advance does work, but it sounds like it's sticking at the very high end- that or i'm simply depleting the coil. I found the tach from our racecar, a 4 wire 4" autometer pro comp II unit. I'll investigate how it connects and i'll see if i can get a RPM reading off my engine (and maybe perm. fasten it under my column or something). The photo's aren't great, the shutter's acting up.

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
Is there a model number on the tach? It should be one hot one ground one that hooks to the distributor and one light.

Re: major problems, major fixes (bit rambly)
i talked with the guys in chat about it, it has a yellow lead and no green lead, which means it might be for magneto only?
the only thing i could see that could be any ID is "D-1028". Last edited by magnethead; 06-16-2006 at 11:11 PM. |
