Painting Leather

Has anyone ever painted smooth leather body color? It was light gray, cleaned it with alcohol, then put a light coat of acrylic enamel on it. Will let it dry for a couple of weeks. Will any of it stay on?

I've gotten overspray on a leather coat once and I was never able to get it off... but I wouldn't hold my breath on a steering wheel cover.

Don't they sell paint specifically for that? I think it will wear off quickly from just use. But I have been wrong before You have to let us know after you try it out!!

Yea, I know they do sell leather dies --wanted same as body color tho--- medium blue irridescent. When I first bought my 67 -- the rubber floor mat was body color -- thot that was strange. When I gutted the interior and pull the step plates, found out it was originally black. It stayed on rubber pretty well. My leather skin has no padding in it so I am not expecting much flex. Heck, might as well find out.

For those interested, the results turned out great. I do suggest that if you try this, use a non-cushioned wheel skin. It has been to 2 car shows with good result and compliments.
