Re: grrr, valve cover leaking oil
Leaky valve covers have been a small black issue since 55' but no amount of gaskets or sealer on the gaskets will help if the intake bolts have no sealer on them. You could get both oil and antifreeze coming up them holes which will drive you nuts. SEAL-em first then see what you have.
My experience has been best with cork valve cover gaskets but the install is more critical then the material. The 88-98 350's with injection are also notorious for intake gasket leaks which are a bugger to replace so just be aware~~~. |

Re: grrr, valve cover leaking oil
When I installed alum intake I put RTV sealant around the ALL the bolt holes (both sides of gasket) but did NOT put thread sealer on the bolts themselves. Could that be case of my oil leaks?

Re: grrr, valve cover leaking oil
Yes...on the middle two bolts on each side around the carb, you need a lot of thread sealer on each bolt. I forgot this last time and have a couple of leaks.
You CAN seal chrome valve covers, ya just haveta use studs and RTV and re-tighten after the motor warms up a couple of times.
