Another Potential Problem
If any of you have been following the saga (or care to). I went out to this guys place today to pick up a new (used) A-Arm to replace my bad one and was looking at some of the 15 or so 67-72 trucks he had and noticed that the motor mount perches were in the front holes and mine are in the rear holes.
He explained to me that mine were in the 6 cyl spot and the V-8's were in the front holes! Well, I know my truck originally had a 6, but I pulled out a 350/400 and all fit and worked fine. My question is if I were to get a set of brackets and move them to the front holes will that screw up my already one piece (and powder coated) drive shaft? I really don't want to have to make a new drive shaft if I don't have to. Is it a big deal to have the 350 sitting in the 6 cyl spot? Man, another thing to set me back.... What are you guys' thoughts?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But it should be fine, just puts your HEI, if that's what you got a little closer to the fire wall.

Yeah, like I said it all fit fine before I disassembled the truck, I just don't want it to be one of those real noticable "hey look that guys engine is in the 6 cyl position" kinda deals.
Also, I don't plan to put a fan back on the motor, but rather do the electric fans on the radiator....will this look silly because the motor sits 2" further back than it could/should?

My 350 is in the back position. I have heard people say it helps with the handling but I don't know for sure.

My 350 is in the 6 cylinder spot, running an electric fan as well. I'll admit that there is a bit of a gap between the radiator and engine. I figure this, if after everything that you've gone through, and as clean as it is, if someone wants to put that in your face, they are just jealous of how sweet your truck is
I wouldn't sweat it, with a shroud on the back of your radaitor for the fan, most people won't even notice. I kinda like having the extra room to work on the front of mine. I can take off the w/p, timing cover, etc, without removing the radiator, no problem

I don't think it would look funny. Now that I think about it I think mine are in the 6 pos.
If you build the rest of the truck the same quality as the frame work your doin, I don't think anyone will say anything. They'll be to busy wiping the droooool. hehe

Yea, I wanted my CG moved aft for better weight distribution. Sounds good. Tell a few people that and they will be trying to figure out a way to move thier motors back.

I must have blinked & missed this one! I tossed the V8 stands & mounted my smallblock in on 6/250 stands. i drove 2 different daily drivers, & 1 was in v8 position, & the other was a v8 in 6 position..........it had a better feel on the road with the eng slid back( especially when wet or slick). I have also moved my battery to the back on the longhorn, & the tank is next........gotta get some weight to the rear of that "limo"! I would also leave it , you are gonna have a real nice truck when finished.......crazy longhorn

If I was going to put the SBC back in my truck, I'd put it in the 6cyl position to transfer a little of the weight to the rear. You'll end up with a bigger gap at the front but I wouldn't worry about it.
That truck will look sweet no matter where you put the motor

Mine is in the back or 6hole and does just fine.
And I have electric fans on the radiator and love it. Good luck Matthew

After I towed my truck to the muffler shop, the guy told me that the motor was siting in the 6 cyl possition. So I wen ahead and got the duel exaust done($400).Then while driving my truck with my used th350 I noticed that it slips in 3rd(was mated to a 6cyl before, now a 350). So a week later I got the tranny rebuilt and got the tailshaft replaced from 6 inch to a 9 inch tailshaft, so I didnt have to cut the driveshaft, I then mooved the motor ahead to the v8 location cutting my 1 week old $400 exaust. I just wanted it where it belong.
