Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
Could anyone who knows how to install a rear gas tank in one of our trucks please give me a hand? I need to know how to mount the tank and where to run the lines. There are about 4 or 5 openings on my tank and I haven'r a clue on how to get started. Pictures would help a great deal.

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
This is what I did. I blocked off the line that was off by itself on the filler neck side of the tank, I have no idea what this was originally for. I used the one next to the filler neck for my filler neck vent tube. I used a 96 silverado fuel door for my project. The line on the fuel sender goes to the fuel pump. I bought some 3/8 steel brake line and rubber hose and connected to mine on the frame before it went over to the middle of the cab for the in cab tank. The one I labeled tank vent is how I am going to vent my tank so it doesn't have a vapor lock. Some guys use charcoal canisters off of newer trucks, but I'm going to use a tank vent off of a motorcyle to vent mine. It's supposed to only open when air is "sucked in". Here's how I did my tank.

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
the line you blocked off is probably a return for people who are using a fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
The new tanks are repops of the 71-72 emissions gas tanks. They actually vented both sides of the tank to a canister at the drivers side rear corner and then a third hose runs up to the charcoal canister at the front.

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
'67ChevyRedneck's post is gospel. Do it that way. There are holes in the frame already for the straps. The fun part is figuring out where to put your filler neck...

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
Ok, my tank is undercoated and mounted using 3/4in J-bolts. The ones the tank came with were a little wimpy for my taste. Anyway, I attached all the hoses to the tank and ran my 3/8 steel fuel line last night and so far so good. I am hoping to add fuel and try it out tonight. I do have two questions though. Is there any trick to installing the fuel sender to getting it to accurately read the fuel level on the gas gauge or do you just put the rubber O-ring down, then the sender and then the locking ring and lock it down? And, how do you run the wire that is supposed to go to the fuse block? I was thinking about attaching it to the taillight harness then running it through the firewall. Thanks!!

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
As long as the sender came with the tank just drop it in and go, why not just take the wire from the factory tank, drop it down through the hole in the floor where the fuel line used to run, extend it to the back and hook it up. where did you end up putting your filler neck?

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
The hole for the old fuel line is welded over. So My next option is trough the firewall. The bed is off the truck; however, I am going to do my best to have the rear driver side side marker light flip open. There is a thread about it on this sight. But for now I have to get my fuel tank working then figure out why my $1200 700r4 transmission won't work properly.

Re: Rear Gas Tank Install help!!!
i had to knoch out one of my cross braces on the bottom ofthe bed because it hit the tank,so you might want to watch for that when you install the bed...
good luck
