Exclamation '87 GMC 1-Ton pickup electric fans?

What is the best kit for replacing the stock radiator fans with electrics? I have had just about ENOUGH overheating at slow speeds on the 454. Please advise and THANKS ALL!

If you are serious, then look at the SPAL 11" dual fan setup. Summit Racing has them in stock, or go to "Be Cool" radiators website www.becool.com for more info and data. I have a couple vehicles with these in them and they are strong and move a lot of air. There are numerous ways to wire them, so that they are efficient and reliable.

I mounted mine by using flat "mill-stock" aluminum pieces from a hardwares store and connecting the fans housings to the stock, then bolting the stock to the frame below and above the radiator. At no time is there any contact between the fans and the radiator fins. I have had one set running in my 84 GMC pickup for four years now, and the latest install is a set in my 91 Silverado, within the last four months. They actually helped with the gas mileage and horsepower. I also have a set ready for install on a 68 Chevy C-10 Street rod project that I am building.

I don't even reach the first line (150° or w/e it may be) in dallas traffic and I still got the clutch fan. Do you have an oil cooler or SMOG crap? You sure the Tstat is working? Any obstructions in the grille?

AirMale- Have you actually run this type of assembly with success? If so, I am ready to buy it. I have no obstructions at the grille. Everything is stock except the flex fan. I need a 100% reliable BOMB-PROOF solution here.

I made my setup alot cheaper. I got some fans from O'Rilley's the pair of Hayden 16" and used the thermostat setup. I mounted them from the rear of the radiator and work great. The wiring kit I ditched later on since it kept getting turned on anytime the temperature outside got too hot. I later went to a relay setup and fuseable links and works even better.

I don't know if they work or not. It will be some time before I know. They were just something I wanted to put on top of my gigantic pile of parts.

The Jegs setup is a good one, and is very much the same as the SPAL fan setup that I told you about. Summit lists them under a "Be Cool" number for about $279.00. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
