Question Driveshaft phasing

I have a 67 C20 Auto/2WD. It has a two piece driveshaft with three u-joints and a center bearing. There is no alingment key on the spline at the rear of the front shaft. Oldest son took it apart without marking it for alinment. How do I phase it properly?

Thanks RWold

As long as the drive shaft itself wasn't disassembled, you should be OK... It's just a matter of having it installed coorectly at the rear end.... In that case there is only two possiblities... Install the driveshaft... drive it. If you notice some vibration - reinstall, rotating 180 degrees... If the vibration gets worse, rotate again 180 degrees (original position). The 'phasing' you read about is the relation of the 3 u-joints to each other.

After reading your post again, it sounds like it was disassembled... not sure what the relation between u-joints to get the correcting phasing....

you need to veiw the center slip yolk as an extension of the front shaft........in other words, the caps pressed into the slip yolk will be in line with the caps pressed into the front end of the shaft. As vfrdude has aready posted, if it vibrates, take it apart & flip the 2 pcs 180 & reassemble. good luck.....crazy AL
