oil gauge

I have been contemplating the install of the oil gauge in my 70 C10 6 cyl. The issue is I don’t want to take a chance of oil spewing all under my dash if thee is a problem with the line or the gauge itself. Does any one know where I could get the same style (looking) mechanical gauge as the one I have now? Or if some one can give me instructions on how to do this myself that would be great. Thanks for your input.

Re: oil gauge

I wonder if you could use an isolator liek NHRA mandates on fuel pressure guages?

Re: oil gauge

If your 70 C10 is like my 70 GMC then your running the idiot light dash I guessing. I plan on changing mine out also. Hook the line into the gauge and have someone blow forced air through it with a compressor nozzle. Spray each joint with some soapy water in a spayer bottle. If you see bubbles then it's leaking. It's the same way to check for leaks on propane lines & welding hoses. I don't think a little air will hurt your gauge any as long as you keep the pressure at a reasonable rate.

Re: oil gauge

Autometer makes electric oil pressure gauges. The sending unit is on the motor.

Re: oil gauge

All the guage companies make electronic guages, but non of them look like the original guage.

Re: oil gauge

I know, but I gutted my original mechanical gauge and inserted the electric component from the new one. The needle needs a little JB Weld or Crazy Glue

Would you happen to have any pictures of the process? And or the end product?

Sorry, no pics of the process. The gauge looks as if nothing was done to it, I also wanted the stock look. Use the guts from an Autometer 4827
