Engine hesitation?
This is probably a no brainer but just recently, my engine started hesitating when i slowly step on the gas, gives the feeling like the brakes are on but they aren't. the truck's been off the road for about the past week because i was fixing some body and put in a lift but nothing with the engine was changed. The weather has dropped significantly though, could it be the coldness? The problem does fade as engine warms up but it's anoyying when I first get going. Replace the thermostat with a 195 (160 is in there now)? Something else? Any tips would be appreciated. thanks

Check to adjustment on the choke .
What carb are you running .

well, thanks for the replies but it's neither of those... I don't have an automatic and I wired the choke open because i never need it, just pump her twice an it'll fire up every time. I just changed the thermostat to a 195 and that helped a lot but also ran up into the low 200's and maybe I'm a wuss but i don't like the engine that hot, mainly because it's not even warm out today and what if the weather starts going up again. I'll wait for it to cool down and then throw a 180 in there and try it out tomorrow. Thanks again though.

In that case check for a healthy "squirt" of fuel in each primary barrel from the accelerator pump when you operate throttle linkage, WITH engine not running please.

it might be the accelerator pump in the carb going bad.

Seems funny that he'd have problems with gradual throttle if it were his accel. pump. They work partially on suction don't they? Seems like it would be more obvious if he tried to give it a lot of throttle at once versus just a little bit. Gradual throttle was the only way I could drive my truck with any consistency when my accel. pump was broke. Stomping on the gas would stall the engine, but not feathering the gas gradually...

If I stomp on it, it just about dies and then finally comes into it. Anyway, i threw that 180 thermostat in and when it's warmed up she's pretty good. Still a slight bog when i quickly push the pedal but getting better.
