Thumbs up Tilt wheel question

Went to local salvage yard today and found a 1981 GMC van with a tilt wheel and key start on dash. Removed it and paid 15.00 american dollars for it . My question will this fit my 1972 1/2 ton? If it will, I will read the older posts for installation tips........................ any advice ? Kirby

Re: Tilt wheel question

It will fit, read the posts in the FAQ section, it's not tough, just takes a little time. Of course when you pay $15 for it you have a LOT of time you can burn

Re: Tilt wheel question

My advice - ENJOY.

You need a Dremel and a drill to move the NS/REVERSE switch and a drill and a BF hammer to colapse the intermediate shaft.

By the way that is the best price I have heard of for a van tilt. 2 weeks ago a vendor was trying to sell an unmodified van tilt for $200.00 at the local swap meet. By Sunday afternoon he still had it.

Re: Tilt wheel question

In the other hand you might get a better price if you buy them in bulk

Re: Tilt wheel question

I got the same '81 van tilt, but mine cost $40. Of course that was the cost of towing the whole van home. City was giving a guy I knew a hassle for a unliscenced vehicle in his yard,(he got hit in the front end and it damaged the frame) so he gave it to me. Pretty rough, but its a beuville with tilt, air, swivel buckets and a 350 with a rebuilt top end.
