Steering Column issue

I bought a new column from ebay, but the shaft ends at the bottom of the column with the rag joint. the one i removed from my truck goes all the way to the steering box. Is the new one for power steering set-up, and if so, can i use the original shaft in the new one.

Thanks in advance

Re: Steering Column issue

If your's is a 1967 then they were just a one piec shaft (maybe 68 also). You should be able to unbolt your old 1 piece at the rag joint, and place the two piece unit in it's place. You can proably find one on the parts board (I think it is called the intermediate shaft).

Re: Steering Column issue

You could reuse the 1 piece shaft into the new column as long as the new column isn't a tilt type.

But, the 2 piece design with the intermediate shaft is a worthy upgrade for your truck. The government mandated a collapsible steering column, which is why GM did it. It's a good safety feature.

Try the parts board, I'd bet you could pick up an intermediate shaft for 10 or 20 bucks.
