68 1/2 ton long bed what direction?

hi, i am a new member but have been following your site for awhile. my fathers first new truck was a 68 long bed and he taught me to drive on it, so as a car guy i have always wanted one of these. i have purchased a 68 sight on seen SCARY but after talking to the guy i felt good about it. the truck will be delivered in 2 weeks. here's the short version. man was on vacation and went to estate auction was only bidder on truck. he never expected to buy it but drove it home 635 miles. put it in a small shopper paper so cheap i almost didn't call. he described truck as a barn kept farm truck some dents from the cows. all stock except wheels. 307-3 on the tree no radio, p/b, p/s or any other options. light yellow, good seat, cracked dash pad, glass good no cracks or white frosting, rusted rockers a couple rust spots in bed, gas gauge does not work, plus the dents from cows. it drove straight and tight with no problems. it also had $1400.00 of receipts for exhaust and front end parts plus other wear and tear problems. 114000 mi. on it. as is good driver or work truck. i sent money fast. he since has regretted it because of a lot of better offers. my short range plans are to use the truck as now and then driver. i have no interest in modifying i add any options to truck or stray away from original will that hurt value? thinking about a/c, p/b, disc, carpet, sound deadener, spray in bed liner, nice wheels, exhaust. i will keep paint original. will have to see about changing valve seats. updating ignition? i do not want to hurt value of this truck, but would like to drive it now and then with a little comfort. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

i don't think any mods you mentioned will hurt value at all but make it much more usable and enjoyable

Re: 68 1/2 ton long bed what direction?

if you add anything that wasn't on it when it left the factory it's not original

i'm sure you really like your truck but the fact is it's a low optioned low demand vehicle so the value as such is low also// do what you want to it to get the most enjoyment out of it thats the value of the truck// as far as resale value figure you'll be lucky to get 50cents on the dollar on what you spend

that helps alot thanks. what do you mean by low demand? as to low value the more i read the more i become confused. i would like to find some kind of legitiment value. NADA seems to high. i want to do some updates on the truck but not if there is no value in the truck to begin with. thanks

Re: 68 1/2 ton long bed what direction?

Most people want the high option trucks (ie Big Block, short wheel base, fleetside, auto, a/c, bucket seat, tach dash, power brakes/steering). For the truck you are describing is a basic work truck which isn't going to be very good investment wise. If you want a good truck to drive, tinker on and fix up the way you like it, then it sounds like a winner. If you want to make money on it, then maybe you should turn it over quick (if you got a great deal on it to start with). Of course this is all just my opinion.

BTW Welcome to the board from South Mississippi!
