The first Avalanche?
I found an interesting peice of literature, its a brochure from GM of Argentina, it has a hand written date of 1971. The first truck shown is clearly a crewcab made from a suburban, makes you wonder why they didnt offer them for the U.S.
You can also see the different rear body lines and lack of side markers. Dont know which conversion company did these for GM but it looks like they were ahead of there time.

Re: The first Avalanche?
Those were not converted, they were built by G.M. Argentina. In this country, International Harvester built something called the Travellette. This was the Suburban-like Travelall, with the roof cut back over the cargo area, giving about a 4.5' pickup bed. Needless to say, it wasn't a big seller.

Re: The first Avalanche?
Bob beat me to it.It`s like a Travelette. It`s funny how times change, because obviously it would be a big seller,now(H2,Avalanche,Ridgeline,4dr Nissans,Toyotas,S10,Baja...)I like the van bodies.
