Windshield tint???
I just removed the cracked windshield out of my 69. I had been under the impression that it was a non tint glass, then when it was out and on the ground it is definetly a very light green shade. Is this from age or is it actualy a factory tint. It was the laminated safety glass and I assume original.
What shades are available? Thanks for the info. |

Re: Windshield tint???
Did more trucks come with tint or without? Just wondering cause my 71 longhorn came with ac and tint and i thought that was kinda rare. I didnt think that many vehicles had factory tint back then.

Re: Windshield tint???
So, I am still wondering what the glass shop will offer. Has anyone gone through a glass shop for replacement and what do they offer for options? I am guessing they have the same sources that we do for their glass: LMC, Chevy Duty etc.

Try to have an older , experienced installer do the install , less problems that way.

Re: Windshield tint???
So I should order up the rubber ahead of time it sounds like. I was thinking of ordering a complete cab set and go that route and maybe save a few bucks.

Re: Windshield tint???
From what I've seen at work, i talkl to the glass guys that come in... probably have 1 windshield a week done, and we have yet to find a glass company we really like, but they alla gree to try and get some old fart to do it. (there words, not mine) seems the younger guys don't know how to do it seeing that the OEMs haven't used the gasket type instalation in years.

Re: Windshield tint???
Sounds like a few questions to screen the glass shops might be in order, like ; do you have experience with these years of trucks?????
When I got into tearing the rubber out of mine, I noticed like a caulk or sealer that was pretty dried up and hard on the outside of the glass in between the seal and out to the lip of the sheet metal. Kinda like it filled in the void where moisture could get by the rubber and maybe an attempt to seal out moisture from between the rubber and cab. I would assume that asking about this little added feature might be a clue to what quality of instalation I might be getting. On the same subject , I was wondering what procedure is advised for this area of the cab. The sheet metal overlaps under the seal and mine has a fair degree of scaling rust at the lower corners ( of course) and rust in the seam. I hate the thought of cutting all of this metal out and have sprayed the cure all Gibbs deep into these seams and plan on treating with a Phosphouric Acid or Metal Ready , as POR 15 calls it, and then use a product called Rust Shield ( similar to the POR 15 at 1/2 the cost). I am hoping that this will do since the metal is very sound and solid., just rust on the surfaces but I am hoping to eliminate the future threat of a problem. Any one else out there been where I am with this subject???? |
