new 1500
well, i finally broke down and bought a new truck. nothing fancy, just a daily driver that i won't have to worry about keeping up with on a day to day basis.
it's a 4.3 5speed with 3.23 posi. also got air, tilt, cruise and cd for under 14.5. i thought it was a pretty good deal. it's my first new vehicle.

Re: new 1500
Yours looks like a WT also, let me know if you need any advice on LS add-ons from the junk yard. Put an 2003 mini overhead console with lights $25. -- 2004 temp, air bag, compass rear view mirror $55--, and roof clearance and marker lights $60 on my 2006 WT SWB 4x4, 4800, 3.42 axles. I like Silverados.

Re: new 1500
You will only need to run one wire for your mirror temp sender and splice the pigtail that come with the existing mirror to the temp mirror pigtail. See thread below.

They told me it was a special order that a guy bought something different once it had arrived, but yours is the second one I've seen optioned almost identically and dalbers is real close? I wonder if they are blowing smoke - well, I know their lying out their a$$es (carsalesman and all), but was wondering if this was anywhere near true? How does the 4.8 feel for power? Its rated @ 285 so on paper it seems like it would be pretty stout, but sometimes that doesn't translate to the pavement very well? Its $19,6xx, but has about $4000 in discounts, including a $1500 "trade-in assistance". The price with the discounts is around $15,500. Ezernut9mm, did your price (14.5) include an GM discounts? Dalber, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for yours? Not trying to be nosey, just trying to arm myself for the battle when I go in to deal with them!

Re: new 1500
Mine was the basic WT with the following options listed.
4800 engine uplevel cloth trim power windows and mirrors am/fm w/cd player cruise control power door locks 3.23 rear axle smooth ride suspension the sticker price was $22,245, but it was on sale for $15,995 i think. I really like it so far. The motor seems to do alright. I have the 5-speed, so that makes it a little more fun probably. Last edited by dalbers; 06-27-2006 at 03:50 AM. |

Re: new 1500
I couldn't wait so I went and bought it!
It sounds like it is the same as yours except no cruise (which I wish it did have), and no smooth ride. But it does have a locking rear-end. What is invloved in the smooth ride suspension? It was marked at 19,6xx and I offered them 18,500 and they took it. I had the option of all the GM cash back/refund/assistance which totaled to about $4000 or we could date everything for today and starting today they offered 0% finance for up to 72 months. If I keep the truck until it is payed off the interest savings will be $4128 vs the $4000 in rebates and the payment is $1.17 a month cheaper so I went for the 0%. The rear bumper is unpainted as are the better part of the front bumper and the grill suround. The guy from their body shop said he would only charge me 1/2 the normal hourly rate to paint those black to match the rest of the truck. Already looking at a 2"/4" drop and maybe some wheels if I can find a deal on some. First new car I've owned - I don't think I've ever had something to work on that wasn't covered in grease and oil!!! *edit* I'll get pictures up tonight; I know its one of the unwritten cardinal rules that you have to put pictures with any newly aquired vehicles posts. *edit-2* It had 32 miles on it when I test drove it, 38 when it left the lot so it might have had 40 when it got to my house.

Re: new 1500
congrats on the new truck, you'll enjoy it. Mine was also my first new vehicle. I don't know what the smooth ride suspension is, but it doesn't matter probably because I had the 4-6" drop put on mine. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Re: new 1500
OK, it took a while but here they are. And sorry about crowding in on your thread?!?
I was thinking 2"/4" drop but yours looks pretty good with the 4"/6". I am just not sure on the C-notch? It had 39 miles on it when we got it home, 280(ish) on it now. So after 1/2 tank of 60/40 freeway/city (give or take) it came out to just about 18.5 mpg. We are leaving for Whistler BC before noon tomorrow so I should be able to get a better gauge of freeway mpg although we will have 3 mt. bikes on a hitch mounted bike rack and all our gear for 4 nights and 5 days of riding. That 18.5 sure looks a lot better than 12.5 or 12.9 from my other two trucks! BTW, I noticed that the truck seems to shimy and shake a little bit when hitting rough patches of road. Will the suspension soften some as it breaks in, or is this what a these trucks drive like?

Re: new 1500
I just bought another new one this week. Sold a 2005 6cyl 5sp for a 2006 4.8 5sp, SWB 2WD I really like the V8 that was the main reason I bought a new one plus all the discounts, got it very cheap! Only thing I don't like is the one I bought had HD Suspension package $95.00 option and I can't believe how much rougher riding it is compared to the one I just sold. Dealer says its just heavier shocks but it seems so much rougher, I can feel every crack in the road! I will have to fix it somehow. Otherwise I love it!
