Help

I was removing all the hardware off the interior of my doors. I had a problem screwing out one of the screws on the arm rest. I had to cut off the head of the screw to remove the panel. Some how the nut that is attached to the door got unattached. Where can I get a new one. And what is it called?

Re: Help

Somebody has to have an idea what this piece is called. They are attached all over the inside of the door. It attaches the armrest and the door panel to the door. Like I said in my previous message; mine some how got unattached from the door. I would like to use the old one, but the screw is stuck in the nut. I need to get a new one. What is it called?

Re: Help

Mine are just inserted in the hole. The one that is still attached is not spot welded. It's got a flange that clips on to the door and the nut is on the inside of the door.

Re: Help

Often called "Caged (or Captured) Nuts", another solution is to use the plastic license plate mounting inserts (that go into the bumper); insert in door and screw the arm rest retaining screw into them. Works OK! BTW: most caged nuts are welded into position and after years of rain/moisture entering the door inside, the arm rest screws are prone to rust onto the nut and when trying to remove the armrest screws (now firmly rusted into postion) it has a tendency to "break the weld". Have used the license plate nylon securing nuts with great success on many vehicles to replace caged nuts.
For your consideration....

Re: Help

That's exactely them. I'll order some of them. I also noticed that the drivers door had the license plate nylon nuts. I'll just order new ones. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Help

You may be able to get them from your local W.W.Grainger or other industrial supply house or you can usually find an automotive fastener supply.
