Anybody in here put flame kits in their exhaust?

isn't a matter of inserting a spark plug in your exhaust and splitting a plug wire to it?

I do.

It's a spitfire kit and it was easy to install. Shoots about a 3 ft flame when the exhaust is good and hot. Seems to discourage tailgaters.

Do you have to run your system rich in order to get enough burnable fumes to ignite? I was on www.hotlicksexhaust.com and they have a system I was looking into. A friend of mine did a propane flame kit on his which burns blue,but its all fabricated.

The kit that I have works by interrupting the ignition system and sending a pulsed spark to two spark plugs in the tail pipes. Press the button and pump the accelerator a couple of times and the raw fuel is atomized and is sent out to the exhaust pipes, ignited and voila...flames.

It does wash down the cylinder walls and probably dilutes the oil to some extent so I change my oil at a shorter interval. It's not good for the engine but I don't do it all the time so I'm willing to accept the risk. It sure does look cool at night on a dark street!

More info on this would be nice. Is there not enough burnable gases in the exhaust to ignite? Why couldn't you just mount spark plugs in the tail pipes and run a toggled 12 volts to them?

if your carb is adjusted right, then there won't be nearly enough fumes to ignite. I have seen ppl who had wired up a coil and spark plugs in there tail pipes,a nd then pulled the manual choke and toss the toggle, but I can't say how it would comapir to a real system.
I'd like to see it on side pipes personally.
www.mooneyes.com has a flame thrower kit too.

the fuel is long sense burnt. thats why the system "retards" the ignition so the engine dosent burn it, it just lets fuel get blown down the exhaust system, the plugs then ignite the mixture... it looks cool, but does nothing but "wow" ppl.
I would splash some methonal on my tips before i bought a systm. hahah

A good system would be to use an injector run off of a washer motor to inject gas into the pipes about 12 inches in front of the spark plug. That way you don't hurt the motor doing it.
Also, this way you can flip the switch and slap the peddle to the firewall so that it's a triple dose of flames, being loud, and burning tires.

Your kidding aren't you? First the washer pump would be destroyed by the gasoline, then the vehicle that it's installed in would be destroyed by the ensuing fire.....

I just like the idea of blowing peoples minds. Its a totally impractical and useless mod but the cool factor would be priceless!

Any more info on this? I'm assuming he'd use one of the mini bottles but whats hes using to inject it?

We sell em if you want to buy em. If that floats yo boat. I don't think it really blows peoples minds. the options are endless on what you can do. You can rig up just about any gas. I still think its silly. spend your money on better things than Blowing someones mind. If I had a rat rod my look cool

Flaming exhaust is straight out of the fifties, just like baby moon hub caps, souped up flat heads and fender skirts. A classic 50's touch to car culture.

I agree.....flame throwers are silly. But I only have about $100 bucks invested in mine and that's a cheap price for all the entertainment value it has provided.
