need help bagging 71'

OK, so here is the question. What is the best way to bag it in the rear, since I have leafs and don't have trailing arms. All the trailing arm brackets are still there though.

I am in the process of setting up the chassis for my GenIII swap. Now I hit a few new problems. I did the rear flip but I am not happy with the results. Witht the amount of work to set up everything, I think I will just bag it instead.
The flip gave me more drop than I planned, so now front is too high.
The shocks sit too horizontal to work properly so I need to relocate mounts.
The axle is now too far forward in the wheelwell.

The best way to bag it would be to go 4-link for the rear. If installed properly, it will allow you to adjust your ride height to be level vs. the front; it would fix the shock angles so they work; it would allow you to set the wheelbase to your liking.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I agree with Scoti. Four link in the rear, parallel or triangulated, will be the best method.

Four-link= Best

Trailing arms= Easiest/Cheapest

Just find some trailing arms in the JY or from a board member and bolt the bags in place of the stock coil springs. Stupid easy.

Relocators will fix your shock problems.

Re: need help bagging 71'

After researching, I am definitely gonna do 4-link. What are the benefits of parallel vs triangulated. I understand what they are, but which works better for bags? I am not building this truck to lay frame. My biggest concerns are performance.

Re: need help bagging 71'

Parallel Four-Link is my preference on these trucks. Advantages: Pinion angle stays consistent through-out travel, if panhard rod is mounted correctly low roll center is achieved. Disadvantage: Axle will shift side to side through-out travel (longer the panhard rod, less side to side movement. The amount of shift through travel will be negligible, but it does move).

Re: need help bagging 71'

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will go the parralel 4 link route. Suicidedoors needs my dimensions to order. I wish there was a list somewhere of what I need from someone that has done this allready. Anyone have a picture of a nice setup like this or links to this. I have searched all the 4-link threads on here, but it still leaves a lot of guees work. I will be welding this in.
Thanks again guys.

Re: need help bagging 71'

Suicide Doors should be able to give you a complete rundown of everything that you would need to completely install one of their 4-link kits.

If they can't help you, try ART or another manufacturer.

You may want to look at Air Ride Tech. They are a little more expensive but you will get the help you need and they will tell you what you need.

When you figure in the shippng and total cost they are really not that much more. It should be 10 -12% of the parts cost unless its very heavy or over sized.

Re: need help bagging 71'

I like this setup, but can someone help me understand where the end with the brackets usually gets mounted (not the axle tube end). I just can't figure out what those brackets mount to.

They mount to the side of the frame. You weld them in place.

Re: need help bagging 71'

You want the links parallel to the ground, or slightly angled down in front (slightly means 1 degree) at ride height. Mount the panhard bar as low as you can behind the rear axle, and have it parallel to the ground at ride height.
As far as who to buy from, I like Air Ride Tech. and am a dealer for them (I offer 10% discount to all board members).
