I am looking for a '71 hood to replace mine that received hail damage. I found a '70 in good condition for $150. Two questions. (1) What are the mechanical and aesthetic differences in the hood other than the obvious bowtie on the '70; (2) is $150 a fair price; (3) is it more hassle than it is worth to use the '70 (ie; should I just keep my eye out for a '71-72. Thanks in advance.

There's no differences in the 69-70 and 71-72 hoods, other than the bowtie on the 69-70's. My truck had a rusted out hood with the bowtie and I replaced it with a 71-72 and it went on with no problems. 150 sounds steep, unless it's a rust free(no rust in the front nose) hood with original paint.

I agree on the price. Usually hoods are the last part to go, which means there are a lot of great hoods out there. I am sure you can find a really nice one for $50.

Esp in Tx, a clean hood should be faiurly easy to get.
For 150 bucks, I'd expect the paint to match and the seller to install it.

I appreciate the info. I will take a look at the hood since it is only a few miles away and then see how little he will take. Nothing like having a hood that you don't need taking up space in your garage.

BTW, how is the bowtie affixed to the hood?

Crap... I had a '72 i'd of given to you that I just had the scrap guy pick up, had one dent. Next time you need a part give me a shout first; if i don't have it I'll try to find it for you. Do you need bedsides?

Thanks. I don't pan to change my bedsides. The only reason I am contemplating a new hood is hail damage. I just figured it was cheaper to replace the hood than to have the dents removed. I am not even sure the dents can be removed with the dentless paint repair.

The 69-70 hood emblem has two mounting posts just like the 71-72 emblem, and there's two holes in the hood that it mounts to. If you look at the underside of the hood you can see the factory cutouts in the inner panel where you can get a nut driver in to attatch the nuts. The hood I got for mine cost me $25. It had a little rust but it wasn't bad, I'd call around to local junkyards and check their prices.

awwwwwwwwwwwww mannnnnnn!!!! i had a nearly perfect one for sale about a month ago. it was off a 70-71 chevy 3/4 ton c-30. good shape. we lost it to a tractor plowing his field !!! :X try some junk yards. all ya can do really.....
