Question Just got a MEGASHIFTER, have questions.

As heading states I just got my Used Truck Megashifter, In playing with it I noticed that in order to Pull The "LOCKOUT" knob, The shifter needs to be in DRIVE. Is this normal? It seems to me that it should be in Neutral, and it doesn't lock in in Neutral, you can push it into drive from neutral.. Is this also normal?

I believe the lock out is so you cant come out of drive into reverse

BIGJIM,

Yes that's what the "LOCKOUT" is supposed to be for, but you can push ther handle forward from neutral to drive without pulling the lockout handle. (that could be dangerous with a grandson in the middle)
and the shifter has to be in "drive" to pull the lockout handle up to put it into reverse or park. This just doesn't seem right to me, it seems that it should have to be in neutral to pull up to put in park or reverse.

I have only been in one vehicle that had one (not driving it) but I think that you are supposed to be able to quickly shift from drive to neutral in case you break something (like on the drag strip)? I am not sure, but I remember reading something like that. Look at the b&m website and see what it says there.

heck, my POS K-Car has the lockout feature on the shifter! It will flip between Neutral and Drive without hitting the button, and it will flip from 1-2-D without hitting the button, but the button is needed (obviously) for D-2-1. That would suck bad! Going down the highway doing 80 and accidentally put the tranny in 1st gear!

My brother's Megashifter was the same way. I suppose it's correct that way.

from my understanding the only thing the lockout is for is to stop u from going from drive straightr into reverse.it needs to freely move through 1 2 and drive without locking so u can shift it manually if need be for say a dragrace

You can't put it straight into 1st or 2nd gear without going through the ratchet action. And you can't go go into reverse without going in from drive.

I didn't get the instructions with it. STEVE was selling it for a friend of his so he's going to get them for me. And he isn't aware of it characteristics either.

It seems real strange to me that you would have to put it in DRIVE to then go into reverse and PARK.

I have the exact same shifter you do. It is working perfect. All those shifters have is reverse lockout no neutral lock out. You have to pull up on the handle to get it out of park into either reverse, neutral or drive. You do have to do the ratchet action to get it into 2nd and 1st. And it is not supposed to let you put it back into park or reverse unless its in drive so you can pull up the handle. It all sound perfectly normal to me.

The one I had worked the same way you're describing. One of the reasons I disliked it.. Though it should lock out neutral on the upshift as well. And I always had a problem getting from drive back to park. Thing seemed sticky

DANNY,

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that it's the way it's supposed to be.. I thought maybe there was some adjustments that you personalized it to work this way. (not you persae, of course)

STEVE,

Thanks for the offer, I'll be ok with it. Just talk to your friend about What I e-mailed you on, as far as the chrome piece goes.
I'm just trying to figure a few things out about it. It doesn't work anything like the old STARSHIFTER I used to run. But if this is how it is and there are a thousand guys/gals out there with there's working this way, I guess I just need to DUMMY UP and use it..:p

Thanks for all of the rest of you guys inputs.
