Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

Been kicking around a "budget" to get the 67 finished by september. Started thinking about the seat belts. I was going to go to a yard and try to find a nice set out of an S-10 or something when I came across these on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-POI...02689103QQrdZ1

Not bad, you get both belts for about $80 and I can get the center belt by the same company for about $20 more. Anyone used these "Protocol" seat belts? I tried to google the name but couldn't come up with a website for "Protocol." I know there are other companies out there but I'm trying to keep cost down, otherwise it's off to the junkyard! The 77 silverado 3 point belts I have in the truck really look like crap and are fraying badly.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

for me personally, i never liked the idea of shoulder belts in these trucks. i just like the nostalgic feel. I had my factory green seat belts and i wanted to replace them with some original black ones. talk about a hard find.

i almost gave up and was going to settle with an aftermarket replacement when i finally found some.

if it was me, i would try to find some blue factory seat belts, but I dont know what look you are going for. if your on a budget, i think its your best bet.i see blue and green ones all the time on here, ebay, etc. thats just my opinon because i gave 50 for my black ones and thats only because black ones are hard to find.

i have never heard of protocol in all my searching for belts.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

When I was young (I think 10 or so) I did a face plant into the dash of my dad's 72 GMC truck when we were off-roading while I was wearing my "nostalgic feel" lap belt. Don't think I broke my nose but it bled for quite some time. I tossed my nice looking original blue lap belts 10 years ago when I put the truck on the road in favor for a 3 point system. Factory 3 point systems (if one can be found) are priced crazy expensive!

I'm not particularly looking for "look" but I would like something that doesn't look like crap. What I'm looking for is a safe, affordable, 3 point system. With a silverado bench seat, blazer tank, silverado fuel door, shaved cab filler neck, 350/700R4 truck, stock don't mean a whole lot to me

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

I put in a set of S-10 shoulder belts in my '72, and total it cost me less than $20 ($15 for the belts from a junkyard, plus a few dollars for fasteners). The passenger side ended up being a complete bolt in using all the factory mounting points, and the driver's side would have been but the gas tank is in the way. Since your in-cab tank is gone, it should be a complete bolt in for your truck, and I think all you will have to buy are the belts (make sure to get them out of a standard cab S10), and two bolts for the upper mounting points.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

Thanks for the tip lukecp.... does it matter what years S-10? What's the difference between reg cab and x-cab belts? Thanks!

Anyone use these aftermarket ones?

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

I bought aftermarket ones from the truck shop and like them.

I got some S10 ones at a junkyard first, but I couldnt get them to work The gas tank on the drivers side got in the way.

I'll give you the ones I've got if you want them They are blue. Just pay the shipping. I can post some pics if your interested.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

I have installed the Protocol 2 point belts on several trucks and really like them. I got them on ebay from Fatrodder. With a bench you will need to make metal extenders to fit thru the seat.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

Heres a few pics of how I do it. Pretty simple and inexpensive. Hope this helps. Julianos sells the seatbelt reinforcement plates for under the cab which are very nice for about $15/pair.

Those are the exact set I bought on E-bay for my '72 and they work great. This is only picture I have at hand right now...

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

I knew someone here had to have used them. They look pretty nice. I figured I'd need some extenders if I got them.

If they are a complete set that are cleanable I might be enterested. Don't have to be perfect, but I'm not really interested in a set that's stained or messed up. If you think they are decent enough, post some pics Thanks.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

heres some pic's if your interersted, if not no big deal ..The buckles that come up in the middle of the seat are the new aftermarket ones..I used the S 10 ones on my truck because they had the GM logo. If you don't want em let me know and I'll put em up for free on the parts board if anyone else wants them.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

I see 3 GM buckles in the pic, so I'd only be getting one GM buckle and two aftermarket, or everything in the pics?? As long as the S-10 belts will buckle tightly into the aftermarket buckles I'll take 'em. Let me know your payment method.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belts (Protocol) Anyone Use them?

You can have everything in the pics.(well maybe not the workbench) The GM buckles are for the center seat belt, and I believe theres a extra one. I cant remember how they were installed, its been a while since I pulled em. The aftermarket belts fit the same as the S 10 they just don't have the logo.
PM me you address and I'll see how much to ship, if it's not too bad I'll just send them to you.
