Wiper Motor Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a quick question about the wipers on my '84 1/2-ton. The wipers take forever to make a complete sweep of the windshield, even on high. Does the fact that they're slow necessarily mean the motor is at fault, or could there be something else going on with them (i.e.: electrical gremlins, bad ground, etc.)? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but thanks in advance for any help.

hello,,don't know about 80's model but 70's model the wiper's are just naturally slow,doesn't take forever,but high speed on 70's is kinda like slow speed on other vehical's,,,i would check to be sure all wire's are tight,,no binding etc.maybe try and find another similar vehicle and check out speed??? just a couple thought's..

yes they are just slow but you should notuice a diffrence between speeds it is a toss up of the problem maybe the swithc in the column or the motor under the hood but that is about the just of what could be wrong

Make sure you have a good ground connection. One of the mounting bolts for the motor serves as the ground connection.
Remove the bolts and clean the bolt head contact surfaces with sandpaper, then reinstall mounting bolts.
This might help.

I just replaced the motor a few weeks ago... and it works great. Before replacing the motor... I noticed that they were extremely slow... and at times seemed like there was barely enough power to turn them... and you can forget turning them on a dry windshield... that was out of the question...

So... I replaced the motor... which was pretty easy to do... the motor also had the washer pump included... and I can now spray the windshield with cleaner...

I was very pleased with the performance of the new wiper motor... works well and slow and fast speed work excellent.

I have an 1984 C-10.

On my last truck which was the 78, it had the dash mounted 2 speed switch and it was slow but it got the job done. On these older trucks always keep your windshield coated with rain x, that seemed to help my problem a bunch. The only problem is when it really comes a downpour you kinda got a small problem there cause they just aint fast enough....Good luck....Mike

I have an 85 and the wipers are SLOOOW both on high and low, I see no difference, where did you get your motor and how much?
