72 dash pad removal
Whats involved in replacing the dash pad in my 72. I assume the cluster and glovebox have to come out? Are there any tricks I should know of?
I ran a search but came up empty on the subject. Thanks,Mark |

YOu're right, cluster and glovebox have to come out,and there are several nuts on the backside.Be sure to get the ones in the corners, they are a little tough to get to

Re: 72 dash pad removal
You already figured out what most ppl don't untill they are ripping it off. There should be i think 5 nuts under the dash, the ones on the end are a real PITA if I remember right (it's been a few years) If your truck has A/C, the center vent will be a pain too.

Re: 72 dash pad removal
Yep.dash and glove box out.......the 2 nuts in the very corners are still tricky!!!!! Once you get the new one installed its worth all the trouble!
If you have a 5 guage ...be carefull with the oil pressure line. If your glove box liner needs replacing....now is the time to do it. If you need to replace any guages...do it now also. Good time for nuetral safety switch also if its bad Good time to replace radio if its bad Touch up paint on dash? Defrost vent replacement? |

Re: 72 dash pad removal
The dash cluster does not have to come out. Glove box most certainly though. If you have the right tools, small arms, and some dexterity you can do the driver's side without pulling the cluster. Whether it is worth the trouble is completely up to you though.
I did mine with only pulling the glove box.

Re: 72 dash pad removal
I did mine without pulling the cluster out.I used several 1/4 in extensions and a 1/4 ratchet. They are not fun to get to but it is one of the most noticable mods you can make since you look at it so much.
