I had a guy remove the hail dents from my hood this week and he did a great job. I have some dents on the roof and am wondering if he can get to those. I have a headliner and am not sure if there is double steel all the way across or if there is an opening under the headliner. If it is double all the way across, are there braces along the way or is it open in between the metal? He would not need that large of a hole to work with. I told him that I would call him in the morning with whether or not to proceed with the roof. Thanks in advance for the advise.

solid double pannels with no ribs.
The only hole that is there already that you might be able to use, is the hole where the visors are mounted. Probably a one inch or so hole.

What would my unforeseen consequenses be if I drilled a 2-3" diameter hole under the headliner?

there is only about 1/8 an inch between the inner and outer sheets of metal. It would be VERY hard to not damage the roof, onless you used a cut off wheel. No drilling.

lol He can't fix them from the outside? I forget what they call it, but you basically weld a shaft to some dent and a large weight slides on it. There's a stopper at the end, almost like a reverse hammer. Does your body work guy know anything about that?

Thanks for the advise Longhorn Man, saved me some time & headaches. I will probably use some traditional fixes when and if I ever get the truck repainted. Hood turned out great with the paintless dent repair.

those PDR guys can do a lot of work through a little hole. someone might be able to fix most of it through the visor and dome light openings.

Dome light hole won't get you to the roof, there isa a pinch weld in the way.

I talked to Brian Doty, a friend of mine that does PDR in Austin, about your situation and he said it would be about impossible to PDR the roof dents without drilling holes or cutting slots in the inner skin. After our conversation, he said he's pretty sure one of his guys did the PDR work on your hood.... small world.
