needing measurement space of rear fuel tank

I have a 72 swb , not at the house its at the body shop, kinda far to drive just to measure the space between frame rails and the rear frame brace (like the brace that the rear tail light wire harness mounts the rubber gromet).what I need to know and hopefully some one can measure this for me, Im needing to know how wide the rear frame is where the location of the spare tire goes. fhew this will get windy here. Im looking rfor the measurements between the frame rails side to side out side frame rail then inside frame rail. and the front to back open space from where the brace after the rearend, tha brace that is at a slight angle to the rear frame brace. Im need9ing this measurement for looking at relocating a gas tank in this spot

Re: needing measurement space of rear fuel tank

I have a 72 lwb so the length will be different but the width should be the same. Side to side its 27 1/2 so I'm going with a 26 1/2 wide tank to be safe and I figure I get get one 30 inches long. but again thats a lwb truck.

Re: needing measurement space of rear fuel tank

GMC Pauls lists the measurement of a replacement Blazer tank as 12 3/4"Deep, 17" front to back, 26" side to side. The Blazer tank I have pretty much fills out the space of my SWB, so I think those would give you what you need. Remember you'll need to remove the spare tire cross brace to fit the tank.

Re: needing measurement space of rear fuel tank

thanks Palf70step, but my issue is that I need a tank for FI, with the measurments thyat you just listed with those close measurements. this is kinda driving me crazy to find a tank that will fit in the spare tire area that also has capabilities for FI

Re: needing measurement space of rear fuel tank

Depending on your Budget, you can always have Fuelcellguy make one for you. He does excellent work and he'll make it fit anytpe fuel feed you need.

EDIT:

Just found this for an 82-86 Blazer Fuel Tank

FUEL TANK
25 Gal., (28-3/4 x 28-1/8 x 10-3/4), w/ Lock Ring Sets, Depth of Bottom Half 3-1/2", Small Filler Pipe 1-5/8" ID, (Hol#197-1273) (SPI#GM15B)

Looks like fuel size late model might be a hair to big
