Will I be thrown off the board?
I am about to desecrate the inside of my Blazer. I am going to put Toyota captain chairs in the front and bench seat in the back. I would never do this if I had a local wrecking yard with American cars. I have to go for Japanese inspection soon and have to have headrests for all seats except rear middle. The first time around I used duct tape, yes duct tape, to put headrest on all of the the seats. At that time it did not matter, I just had to have them. Now there are new laws and they must be part of the seats. I had to junk my wifes Toyota Estima van, which had less than 60,000 kilometers on it, due to the fact it was going to cost me approximately $1200 to repair the A/C and $500 for new tires (Japanese prices are outrageous and it was a perfectly good car). So, I bought another Toyota Estima van with 40,000 kilometers that is extra clean for $1900 (Americans can buy used cars dirt cheap here) and took the seats out of my old one, by the way they match the existing interior of the Blazer, and I will install them this weekend. They will need only slight modifications and I will give everyone the specs and "how to" and I will find out the U.S. version of the van too if I am not kicked off of the board for ruining the integrity of the heatbeat of America. P.S. I will put the original seats in storage until my return to the U.S.

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
You should have left it in the U.S. the roads are too narrow and you can't open it up on the hiway. when I was there 80 klicks was about top speed.
Yes I bought several vehicles out of junk yard.. cheap...Good luck don't lose the faith..and bring back all those Japanese car parts you buy, so you can sell them to buy parts for your blazer...lol

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
You have to do what you have to do... As long as you keep the originals for re-installation at a later date, I think you are still in our good graces. Good luck with the inspection.

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
I have mid 80's Volvo front seats in my Blazer. They look pretty cool. As long as it looks good, it doesn't matter.

If they look good and get the rig on the road - go for it. Just don't junk your Blazer when you need new tires

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
As stated above do whatever you need to do to get your rig on the road!
It is funny though... If I had to, I would feel better about putting Toyota stuff on my rig then F*rd stuff. I think I just hate F*rd too much! |

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
Thanks for the support. Like I said, it should be an easy install with only slight modifications. Lawricker--Its great to have such a beast on these narrow streets, people get the heck off the sidewalks, but I know about not being able to open it up as you are correct about the speed limit of 80 kilometers (about 50 mph) as I am also from Texas, where the speed limit is now 80 mph in some places. Liz, thats a good idea as I need some new living room furniture--I just hope the boss agrees. I'll get pictures as soon as they are installed.

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
Just make sure you re-enforce with plates underneath bro, don't just bolt-nut-washer-lockwasher your mounts. The re-enforced rails the GM engineers laid out on the originals are for a reason....strength! I used 1/4 inch plates and 1/2 inch grade 8 hardware to mount my 2002 Silverado seats in my 72 SWB. Wrecks stink and if you don't have them bolted down good you may regret it. The sheet metal in our trucks is pretty thin without some beefing up

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
I was going to kick you off until the last part where you said you were going to keep the seats. Are they buckets in the front? If they are I will gladly store them for you here in the states until you come back.

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
Head rests, side mirrors on both sides, and your exhaust can not point straight out from the sides, they have to be turned down or pointed back or straight out of the back. Mine exited to the sides behind the rear tire, so I got some chrome tips that pointed down and put them on. But it is ok to ride your motorcycle or scooter in between and around cars and in the bicycle lane.

Re: Will I be thrown off the board?
I just bought my wife an extra clean Toyota Estima van. It was garage kept and has 40,000 kilometers, (aprrox. 30,000 miles), new tires, insurance and inspection for $2000.00. I call them disposable cars. You drive them until everything expires (2 years) and junk them. I could have sold my last van for $1000 or so if the a/c wasn't broken. Most of the used cars are shipped to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Russia or some other third world countries that don't care if the vehicle is right side steering.
