Hood Adjustment
When I close my hood the back (next to the cab or cowl) does not go down as low as it needs to to line up with the cab. This is the case on both sides. Does anyone know if this is adjustable on the hood hinges? I looked and it appeared there was only one set of slotted holes that would adjust it front to back but none for up and down. The amount it needs to go down is about 1/8" to 3/16".
Thanks.

Yes, it is adjustable, but you have to be real careful that you don't wreck the paint.
Check your hinge points before you start. If they have a lot of movement when you lift the hood with it open, they should be changed first. I found it easiest to adjust by loosening the bolts and lifting on the hood a little more, then tightening. Don't go too much at once and check it each time. Eventually you will learn what movement causes what change when it is closed. I'd start by marking around the hinge first, then you can always come back to where it was. Sometimes you can adjust a hood with shot hinges, but it isn't worth the time...

Thanks for the advice. Can you explain a little more about how you tell if they are worn out or not. I'm not sure I understand your statement "If they have a lot of movement when you lift the hood with it open, they should be changed first".

Open the hood. Look at the "rivets" at the hinge points. Wiggle the hood up and down, i.e., from gravity to up as far as it will go. Look for slop. It will be obvious.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight.

After reasembling my front end, my hood would stick up badly at the rear. I learned from someone on this board to open the hood and loosen the bolt on the hinge to fender closest to the firewall on both sides and push the hood up, then tighten. It worked like a charm! My hood sits pretty decent now. Probably not like the general made it but close. My hinges do have some wear but this trick worked.
