Calling Gmcpaul!
i bought the poly blazer tank for my truck last year and i'm finally to the point of driving it and i have a problem with my gauge. i have ran the sending unit wire to my idiot light fuel gauge and then i got a performance fuel gauge and moved it to there, and both wouldn't work correctly. for the aftermarket gauge i ran the wire from the gauge directly to the tank, no fuse panel needed they said. the gauge has power and is grounded, and the sending unit is grounded. now the tank has around 15 gallons so that's about 3/4 i would think.when you turn the key, the gauge needle moves an 1/8th inch, and not even past the E for empty (because with the key off, the gauge needle goes far below E).
i think i've narrowed the problem to the sending unit. is it a 0-90 ohm sending unit? the gauge i bought was for the standard GM 0-90 ohm one. if it is then i guess the float is stuck inside the tank and would need to remove it. thanks a bunch, matt hufham |

i did a test yesterday, disconnected the wire to the gauge that goes to the sending unit, turn the key to run. if the gauge pegs out over full, then the gauge is fine, it's the sending unit, which is what it did. i need to drive off about 14 gallons of gas before dropping the tank.

Matt the sender is a 0-90 Ohm. Check to make sure float is solid and empty, sometimes the solder ring that connects the 2 halves are damaged during installation or handling creating a small gap in solder joint that allows fuel in, normally in this case though the gauge works fine at first and slowly quits working as float fills. ok i got the tank down, got the float out, and i found many hairline cracks. i bought a gas tank repair kit, basically JB weld with a fiberglass cloth.
it has to cure 6 hours, so tomorrow i'll be putting the sending unit back in and tank in |
