Shocks w/ 6" flip kit

I installed a McGaughys 6" flip kit on my '77 last night (excellent kit...well made...simple installation). What shocks can I use with this drop? The extended length is 19 3/4" and the ride height length is at 16". Compressed would be 13" +/-.

I'd like to just use some cheap off-the-shelf shocks...but neither Gabriels nor Monroes website list the specs for their shocks.

BTW I used 3" drop Ground Force Coils w/ the 6" flip kit and the truck is within 1/2" of being perfectly level (the front is 1/2" lower).

Check out Stylin' Concepts. They list drop shocks for your drop. You could go with DJM Cal-max ($39) or Belltech Nitro-Active ($49) (not the Bell-tech Nitro-Drop model). You could also try Doetsch shocks.

If you visit the Monroe site, you can pull up their PDF charts that list the mounting and length for their shock models.

BTW, got any pics of your drop.

Re: Shocks w/ 6" flip kit

I used Doetsch shocks on my 84 when I installed a flip kit and I hated them every mile I drove. They fit okay but they were too stiff and started rusting almost immediately after installation. I have since junked the truck. I haven't installed the flip parts on my new truck yet, so I don't have any reccommendations on what to use.

Sorry for the poor quality pics....

Before drop:

After rear flip pic:

The drop consists of 3" drop Ground Force coils and a 6" McGaughys rear flip kit.

Oh, the rear wheels are 15x10s w/ 295/50s and the fronts are 235/60s on 15x7s. From what I've measured, stock length rear shocks will work....I'll know for sure in a few days.

That looks awfully high to be flipped. I thought the "after" photo was another "before" photo. Do you have a whole lot of leaves in the rear springs or something?

Yes, I think there are 7 or 8 leaves in the packs. I dont' know if they're stock or not...they were on the truck when I got it.

Yeah, that'll do it. My original rear springs had 4 leaves and an overload.

It is hard to say, since your stepside has different fenders, but your looks higher than mine with a 4" drop. Pic below.

That's a nice truck you have there. I still prefer stepsides.
