Vent Window

Hello all. Happy Saturday morning to ya. I'm getting ready to try and replace the rubber gaskets on my vent windows. Haven't found much info. on this or what's involved. Hoping someone has some knowledge on removing the window and replacing the rubber gasket. Thanks. BTW it's for an 86 if that makes a difference.

Its not a real hard job You will have to remove the vent window from the frame to put it in. You can get the rivets for the top hinge from Rez Engineering and putting that rivet in is the hardest part. We don't use that tool they sell but use some small punches and we got better results. take the screw and adjustment spring off the bottom, Use a die grinder or file to grind off the existing hinge rivet. We dissasemble the whole frame and replate the parts but you don't have to. remove the old ,squish in the new one using a stick or whatever and install the btm spring, add new rivet and you are done. I assumed it is out of the truck already. If not you can follow the directions in most manuals on how to R/R the entire assembly. manual windows easier power little harder. If your truck has good paint you care about I would tape it up pretty good. We never scratch the old ones just the freshly painted ones.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I didn't realize I would need to remove the whole assembly to replace the rubber seal. I was hoping I could just do it in the frame. But I realized I will have to anyway. While I was digging into it today. I discovered that the little pivot post that connects from the bottom of the vent window into the door is broke. I've looked through some of my catalogs and checked some of the vendors on here and can't find that particular part. I've seen that you can by the whole assembly for like $160 but I don't want to pay that much. When I don't need the whole thing. Anybody know where I can just get the part that has the pivot or post or whatever the correct term is? I think my explanation and question aren't very clear so I attached a picture of what is I'm looking for. I'm looking for the part or piece that the items numbered 5 and 6 in the pic attach to. Hope that makes sense and again thanks for your replies.

I was about to post this exact same problem so I'll reply here instead.

The driver side vent window has a broken post on the bottom, how to fix just that without buying the whole thing? Junkyard time?

That' what I did... or you can order new.

Mine broke in the same spot. A complete wing window was about $15 in a local junkyard.

Maybe you can I never welded nothing more serious than super glue.
